BIOGRAPHY
Yanina turned pro in 2004. She reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of world No. 12 in 2010 and became one of Belgium’s top players.
Her breakthrough came in 2009 when she reached the US Open semifinals, announcing herself as a rising star. Over her career, she has won five WTA singles titles and four doubles titles, competing at the highest level. She also represented Belgium at the 2012 London Olympics.
After a brief break from tennis, she made a strong comeback in 2022, qualifying for Wimbledon and winning a doubles title at the Korea Open. Off the court, she is married to former footballer Jérôme van der Zijl, and they welcomed their daughter in 2021. Wickmayer remains a determined competitor, continuing to leave her mark on Belgian tennis.
